Buyers may notice that some items have a condition range provided next to the player's name. In most cases (and with some exceptions for clearly labeled "Stock Image" items) the image provided is a high-quality scan of the exact card you will receive. Please carefully review both the front and back scans and use the "Zoom" function to ensure any potential purchase is in your desired condition.
Please note: we do not issue condition notes for any manufacturer defects, including centering or printer lines.
Cards with no notes/Raw
The vast majority of items listed for sale are "raw" and are not provided with any condition notes from COMC. Raw means that the card is not already encased (say, in a sealed one-touch or a graded slab). Our condition expectation for all Modern trading cards manufactured after 1980 is Near Mint-Mint (NM-MT) condition or better. For all Vintage trading cards manufactured 1980 and before, the threshold is Excellent (EX) condition or better.
Cards with [Noted]
[Noted] refers to the presence of 1-2 small issues on the card. Clicking into the specific card will generally provide further information on the exact issue(s). Some examples of a [Noted] issue are a small amount of wear, a small ding, or a minor scratch.
The use of the [Noted] designation has been retired by COMC. Items with minor issues still have these defects noted but can be found grouped in with raw cards/cards with no condition notes. The applicable condition notes for these items are located next to the card on the item page.
Cards with [EX to NM]
The most common condition note is [EX-NM], which is the grade directly below our NM-MT threshold. An [EX-NM] item has been given this designation because the item has either one strong flaw or three minor flaws. An example of a minor flaw is a small ding or scratch. [EX-NM] stands for Excellent to Near-Mint.
Occasionally, as shown above, the [EX-NM] card is priced higher than the raw, unnoted copy. Raw cards are in better condition than [EX-NM] cards, which would suggest that these [EX-NM] cards should be priced lower than their raw counterparts. However, COMC allows individual sellers to price their cards at their own discretion--in other words, a card's price may not necessarily be reflective of the card's condition.
Cards with [VG-EX]
The condition range immediately below [EX-NM] is [VG-EX], short for "Very Good to Excellent". The [VG-EX] condition range is applied to cards that have a combination of major and minor flaws. Major flaws may be surface creases or damaged corners affecting the card's front and back. For vintage cards, this could also mean rounded corners.
Cards with [Poor to Fair]
Our lowest condition bucket is Poor to Fair. Poor to Fair cards have multiple major flaws. Major flaws may include strong surface creases, damaged corners affecting the card's front and back, deep impressions, water damage, and/or markings. For modern cards, this could also mean rounded corners.
